The Kennel Club's 88th Championship for Cocker Spaniels was held on the Sandringham Estate by kind invitation of Her Majesty The Queen. Her Majesty demonstrated a keen interest in working gundogs by joining the gallery to watch proceedings on both days and presented the prizes to the winners at the conclusion of the Championship. Headkeeper David Clark had prepared the ground and was our Steward of the Beat for the competition. This was David's final year at Sandringham before taking retirement, a fitting conclusion to an outstanding career. The judges were Jon Bailey, Richard Claydon, Malcolm Taylor & Dai Ormond. With forty two competitors starting on the first morning, the judges were kept busy in their deliberations. They reached an unanimous conclusion as to the top dogs by late morning on the second day without any need for a run-off.
