39 dogs and handlers competed in the 1997 Retriever Championship, 27 black labradors, 8 yellow labradors
and 4 golden retrievers.  Held on the North Yorkshire Wolds by kind permission of Mr N. H. T. Wigley

The first day in most testing conditions in high mustard crop and  day two was better viewing for handlers and
spectators in sugar beet and long white grass.  Strong winds over the three days and the variety of ground
throughly tested dogs and handlers.
