The Kennel Club's 87th Championship for Cocker Spaniels was held on the Abbeystead Estate, Lancashire by kind invitation of the Duke of Westminster. Headkeeper Tony Barrow and his team had put in a tremendous amount of preparatory work to ensure that the championship was a success and all competitors were given as fair a chance with a plentiful supply of game, each and every competitor had an opportunity to shine. With a record forty two Cockers Spaniels competing, judges Jeremy Organ, Ben Randall, Steve Wanstall and Graham West had a busy two days to decide on the top dogs. Two cold days, with overnight frost made scenting difficult. The second day, the judges had agreed their final placings and did not need to resort to a run-off.
